Suicides in the Construction Industry - Can we fix it?
The construction industry has one of the highest suicide rates in the UK, and other developed countries. Why is that?
This table shows suicide data across various trades over a three-year period (ONS - England / Wales).
While linked to job roles, each figure represents a life lost — a person, not just a profession.
We must ask:
-
are these suicides caused by industry pressures, or
-
by traits common among those who enter this industry?

Can you help with 1 of our 2 surveys...or perhaps both
-
Perhaps you were close to someone in the construction industry who took their own life.
-
Or perhaps you were once in a difficult place yourself, but survived it. Your experiences as a survivor could help others.
NOTES ABOUT THE SURVEYS
-
As brief as possible - Long enough to provide common behavioural patterns.
-
Most questions use drop-down menus - Just click an answer.
-
No personal details required (nor those of deceased) - We are looking for behavioural and situational patterns.
-
The final report will be free to access - Sent to relevant government bodies, construction firms, and trade organisations.
-
If we can understand more about suicide in the construction industry - we can develop systems to identify those struggling.
Current research appears to be based on death statistics - we need to go deeper than numbers.
Thank you for taking part.
This survey is about those who survived
This survey is about those we have lost
